Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before placing your first order. If you can't find your answer, write to us.

Orders

Add the products you want to your cart, go to checkout and enter your delivery address. At the end of the process, choose your payment method and complete your order. You'll receive a confirmation email with your order number.

Payment is completed directly at checkout.

From Japan: we hand your package to Japan Post within 3 Japanese business days after your payment is approved.

You can cancel your order as long as it hasn't shipped yet. Write to us as soon as possible with your order number. Once the shipping label has been created, we can't change or cancel the order.

We email you the tracking number as soon as we hand your package to Japan Post.

Every order is checked piece by piece and packed securely for the journey, in a padded envelope with tissue paper. We make sure it arrives complete and in good condition.

We're putting the finishing touches on the final Karito packaging — logo seal, band and card. When it's ready, you'll notice it the moment you open the envelope.

Payments

For international orders, payment is made directly at checkout with the methods available there. No manual verification or proof of payment needed.

We also accept Wise, available to customers in any country. Since it's a manual method, your order ships once the funds are confirmed: send your proof of payment with your order number to supply@karitojapan.com.

For international orders, approval is automatic at checkout.

If you paid too much, we'll refund the difference or apply it as credit toward your next purchase — your choice. If you paid too little, we'll contact you to settle the balance before processing the order.

International shipping

We ship from our Tokyo headquarters to Japan, the United States, Canada, Mexico and Chile. For any question about your order, write to supply@karitojapan.com.

If you're in another country, write to us: we keep a waitlist and open new destinations when there's enough demand.

Orders ship from Tokyo with Japan Post, tracking number included, up to 2 kg per package:

  • Japan: 2 to 4 days · from USD 2.00
  • Canada and Mexico: 7 to 14 days · from USD 9.50
  • Chile: 10 to 20 days · from USD 11.00
  • United States: 7 to 14 days · from USD 12.00

USD 8 shipping: on orders of USD 35+, to Canada and Mexico (shipped from Tokyo).

The exact rate is calculated by weight at checkout, in five tiers: an order of a couple of items pays the minimum rate. The amount you see at payment is final. Times don't include any time the package may spend held in customs.

Your country's import duties, taxes and fees are not included in the product price or the shipping cost. They're collected by customs at the time of delivery and are paid by the buyer.

United States: since August 29, 2025, the USD 800 exemption (de minimis) no longer exists. Every imported package pays duties, no matter how much it costs.

Canada, Mexico and Chile: each country applies its own threshold and rates.

Orders within Japan don't cross customs and don't pay duties.

No. We always declare the actual contents and value of every order, as required by Japanese customs law and that of the destination country. If you need the invoice for a customs procedure, write to supply@karitojapan.com and we'll send it to you.

Products

All products are bought directly from stationery stores in Tokyo, Japan. I live in Kunitachi, Tokyo, and personally select every piece. We don't work with re-exporters or generic distributors — the source is always Japan, direct.

Yes, they're all 100% authentic products from their brands: Pilot, Pentel, uni Mitsubishi, mt Kamoi, Kokuyo, Zebra, Sakura and more. We buy directly from Japanese stores and never resell imitations.

They're curated selections of complementary products grouped around a Japanese concept. Perfect as a gift or for getting started with a new practice. Right now we have two, and more are on the way:

  • PuniLabo Travel Companions — pocket scissors, magnetic bands and a silicone pouch from Lihit Lab; you choose the design of each piece.
  • Hanko (判子) — a stamp pen, a rolling stamp, a self-inking stamp and stickers to decorate your journal.

We bring in new arrivals roughly every 3 to 4 months. Between shipments, available stock may run low. If a product you want is sold out, write to us and we'll let you know when it's back.

Join our mailing list to get early access to every new arrival.

We take special orders with a minimum volume. If you're looking for a specific Japanese product — brand, model, color — write to us and we'll consider it for the next shipment. We can't guarantee availability, but we always try to help.

Returns and warranties

Yes. You have 7 business days from receipt to request a return. The product must be unused and in its original, intact packaging.

Write to supply@karitojapan.com with your order number and a photo of the product.

We offer one option:

  • Exchange for another product of the same value.

We don't offer cash refunds at this time. Return shipping is paid by the customer, unless the product has a verified manufacturing defect.

We're so sorry that happened. Write to us right away with a photo of the product and the packaging. If it's a manufacturing defect or our mistake, we'll send a replacement at no additional shipping cost. This guarantee applies for 7 days after delivery.

For shipments from Japan, the deadline to open a claim is 21 calendar days, because airmail and customs can take longer than estimated. Write to supply@karitojapan.com.

We open a formal claim with Japan Post. Karito Japan is not responsible for losses by the postal service, but we always support you through the process.
